What Is Sculptra?
Sculptra is a dermal filler that restores skin tissue volume, resulting in firm and radiant skin. It contains PLLA (poly-L-lactic acid), which boosts collagen production in the skin.
There are other injectable options like Dysport, Restylane, and Radiesse. However, when comparing Dysport vs. Restylane vs. Sculptra, the first two only smooth out wrinkles.
Unlike Sculptra, these two do not help restore lost tissue volume. While Radiesse also adds volume, its effects are not as long-lasting as Sculptra. Therefore, Sculptra is the more suitable dermal filler for natural, long-lasting, and effective results.
Is Sculptra Safe?
Yes, it’s safe. The FDA approved its use as a collagen stimulant in 2004. The main ingredient in Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid, which is biodegradable.
This means your body can easily absorb and break it down. The acid works deep in the skin to boost collagen production. Collagen is a protein that helps restore lost structure and volume in the skin.
What Is Sculptra Aftercare?
To achieve the best results and minimize side effects, we recommend the following aftercare:
- Lightly massage the treated area for about 5 minutes, 5 times a day.
- Avoid excessive heat and sun exposure for 1 week.
- Refrain from intense physical exercise for at least 1 week.
- Drink plenty of water for the first 2-3 days.
- Apply cold, clothed ice packs to the treated areas for 2 minutes on the first day of treatment.
Is Sculptra Treatment Right for You?
If you have issues with skin sagging or volume loss, you might be a good candidate for this treatment. However, we recommend that pregnant, breastfeeding, and paediatric patients avoid Sculptra.
Typically, Sculptra can be used to treat the following areas of the face:
- Nasolabial folds
- Chin contour
- Hollow areas on the cheeks or temples
- Smile lines, also known as marionette lines
- Jawline and under-eye areas
In addition to the face, Sculptra can treat sagging areas around the knees and neck. It is also used for natural augmentation of the breasts and buttocks.
If there is not enough fat available for transfer to the buttocks, Sculptra can be used for buttock lifting. This procedure is commonly referred to as Sculptra BBL.
