Microneedling in Van Nuys: What to Expect at ALGM Beauty Bar

At ALGM Beauty Bar, a medical spa in Van Nuys, microneedling is administered by Lily Gazaryan, our founder and a certified aesthetics professional with over 15 years of experience in the medical industry. Lily holds certifications in microneedling, Morpheus8, CO2 laser, and Candela laser, with medical oversight from Dr. Aloysius Fobi, MD, our Medical Director.

A typical microneedling session at our Van Nuys clinic runs 45 to 60 minutes, including a numbing phase. Most patients complete a series of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, depending on the concern being treated. Expected downtime is mild, with 24 to 48 hours of pinkness similar to a light sunburn. Visible improvements in skin tone, pore appearance, and fine lines typically appear 4 to 6 weeks after a session as new collagen forms.

We serve patients across Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks, Encino, North Hollywood, and Burbank. To book a microneedling consult, call (747) 755-5333 or visit our contact page.

Is Microneedling at ALGM Right for You?

Five questions we get asked most before a first microneedling visit.

Traditional microneedling vs RF microneedling. Which one is right for me?

Traditional microneedling creates tiny channels at the skin surface to trigger collagen. RF microneedling (we use Morpheus8) adds radiofrequency heat in the deeper layer, so it tightens as well as resurfaces. The shorter version: pore size, acne scars, and surface texture often respond well to traditional; sagging, jawline definition, and deeper laxity usually want RF. Lily walks through which one matches your skin in the consult, and we do not push the more expensive option if traditional is enough.

How much downtime should I plan for?

Plan on 24 to 48 hours of pinkness, similar to a mild sunburn. Most patients return to work the next day with makeup, and to normal exercise after 48 hours. RF microneedling may add a day to the redness window. We give you exact aftercare instructions for your treatment type so you know what to expect by hour, not just by day.

How many sessions will I need, and how soon will I see results?

Most patients see best results from a series of three to six sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart. You may notice a glow within a few days of the first session, but the real change shows up four to six weeks later as new collagen forms. By session three, most patients see clear improvement in pore size, tone, or texture. One session alone usually will not get you there. We will tell you a realistic session count for your goal in the consult.

Can I combine microneedling with PRP or fillers?

Yes, both pairings work, but at different times. PRP (platelet-rich plasma) layered onto microneedling during the same visit accelerates healing and amplifies collagen response, and it is one of the most-requested combos here. Fillers, on the other hand, are best on a separate day from microneedling so the channels in your skin do not push product around. Lily maps the order of operations in the consult based on what you are treating.

I have acne scars / large pores / fine lines. Will microneedling actually help?

For acne scars (rolling or boxcar), microneedling is one of the most evidence-backed treatments because collagen remodels the scar floor over a series. For pore size, you see improvement after two to three sessions as collagen around each pore builds back up. For fine lines, microneedling works on surface lines well; deeper expression lines respond better to Botox or filler. We are honest about what microneedling can and cannot do for your specific concern.

What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling can restore your skin’s glow, give you fullness and tightness without the need for anesthesia or incisions.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves creating tiny, controlled injuries on the skin’s surface. These micro-injuries kickstart the skin’s natural healing process, boosting the production of collagen and elastin.

Collagen and elastin are crucial proteins that provide the skin with strength, structure, and elasticity. This treatment helps improve skin tightness and glow by addressing issues like pigmentation, laxity, and sagging.

What Are the Types of Microneedling?

Here are the various types of microneedling:

  • Traditional Microneedling: Uses an FDA-approved handheld device to puncture the skin’s surface.
  • Radio Frequency Microneedling: It combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy to enhance collagen production.
  • PRP Microneedling: Involves applying platelet-rich plasma (PRP) from the patient to the skin before microneedling. PRP’s growth factors accelerate healing.
  • Serum Microneedling: Uses serums like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, AHA, or BHA after the microneedling process.

What Is the Aftercare for Microneedling?

To achieve the best results after microneedling, consider these aftercare tips:

  • Try to avoid anti-inflammatory medications for at least 7 days.
  • Refrain from excessive exercise for 2 days.
  • Try to avoid applying ice to the treatment area.
  • Steer clear of saunas, steam baths, and jacuzzis for 2 days.
  • Protect your skin from prolonged sun exposure or tanning for the first 14 days.

Who Are the Suitable Candidates For Microneedling?

Microneedling is suitable for individuals 20 and up. They just have to consult with their provider to determine if the treatment is right for them, regardless of age. It is suitable for all skin types dealing with:

  • Large pores
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne spots
  • Fine lines
  • Dark circles
  • Skin sagging
  • Dullness
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Melasma
  • Sun damage

Microneedling can treat various areas, including the face, neck, abdomen, knees, and even areas around the eyes and lips.

Caution: Microneedling may not be suitable if you have:

  • Pregnancy
  • Active acne
  • Open wounds
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Poor wound healing ability
  • Keloid scars
  • Recent history of radiation therapy

Microneedling works well alongside other collagen-stimulating treatments. Patients looking for deeper tissue remodeling may also benefit from Morpheus8, which combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy. For enhanced healing and growth factor delivery, we also offer PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) combined with microneedling.

Microneedling is one of the treatments I trained in personally because it works well for so many different skin goals. In Van Nuys, I see patients asking about pore size, acne scarring, fine lines, and skin texture. The treatment is gentle, but it only works if patients complete the series. One session will not do it. That is the honest answer.
